SETAF-AF commander meets Nigerian defense leaders
ABUJA, Nigeria - Maj. Gen. Matthew W. Brown, commanding general of U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), concluded a visit to Nigeria Sept. 30, where he met with senior Nigerian defense leaders to reaffirm the U.S.-Nigeria partnership and the shared commitment to counterterrorism and regional security.
During the visit, Brown held office calls with Nigeria’s Minister of Defense, Defense Headquarters Staff, and the Chief of Defense Intelligence. He thanked them for their strategic partnership and their cooperation on counterterrorism.
U.S. forces work alongside the Armed Forces of Nigeria at the request and invitation of the Nigerian government. U.S.-Nigerian security cooperation focuses on supporting Nigeria’s ability to counter terrorists who threaten safety and security in the region. U.S. military support is mission-focused, conditions-based and time-bound, and aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s operational independence.
“Terrorism does not acknowledge borders, and when we work together, we can generate enduring African-led solutions,” Brown said. “I am grateful to Nigeria’s defense leaders for their leadership and partnership. SETAF-AF remains committed to working alongside the Armed Forces of Nigeria to strengthen counterterrorism capabilities and regional security.”
The visit reflects SETAF-AF’s ongoing work with African partners to counter shared threats and promote regional stability.
